There is a reason that diet starts with DIE

January 5th in 03 Health & Fitness Shit...

And by “diet” I dont mean some fad diet where you only drink horse piss for 3 days straight followed by 2 weeks of eating 4 almonds every 6 hours. I mean eating balanced, nutritious meals. Just preparing the ingredients is enough to make you want to slit your wrists… then you have to cook it and make the time to eat the 5-6 smaller meals a day.

This is the first post in the “Diet” category. I’m going to attempt to keep detailed records of my workouts and diet in their respective categories. You can find all of the diet and workout posts plus any additional health related posts in the Healthy Intentions category.

From what I gather

Diet is about 80% of the battle when you are trying to lose weight or gain muscle (for most people). Growing up in the time of the fast food monopoly makes it more difficult than ever, and it doesn’t help that I hate to cook. I actually intended on starting this week eating primarily only meals I cook. It’s Tuesday and i’ve already fallen short. I’m non disappointed. I actually set myself up for failure.

Pre-Plan & Pre-Prepare

I told myself I would plan out my meals, break down the nutritional info to make sure i’m getting the amount of calories I need and the somewhat correct proportions of nutrients. I also want to eat 3 meals a day with 2-4 snacks/protein shakes. This requires a lot of preparation and resolve, it’s so much easier if you do the hard work up front. I use fitday.com which does a pretty good job for what I need. It allows me to choose foods/portions from their database or add my own. It also gives pretty good info on food/meals you are eating. Like I said, I’m just a normal guy thats looked all this up myself and i may be misinformed on some things, so feel free to do your own research or hire a professional… Do realize different things also work for different people. Anyhow, I was supposed to plan all my meals out on Sunday. Then I would cook my meals for Monday through Wednesday. This way I spend a bunch of time in the kitchen on my free day and avoid allowing other things to get in the way of me cooking/eating healthy meals. Believe me, if you dont talk yourself out of it, something will pop up. Well, I talked myself out of it sunday and now i’m paying for it.

I’ll be posting all my nutritional info and progress soon, in addition to charts and/or photos of my progress. I’m keeping this as a log for me and to show people that if you really stick to it (man, I better stick to it) you can attain real progress with a cleaner, more well thought out diet and exercise. I’m also going to be totally transparent and honest. If I screw up and eat a chocolate cake or go on a weekend bender, you can bet your sweet ass that the cake or 47 beers I had will be on my nutrition log.
